Abstract

The study of regional development and territorial organization is essential for understanding spatial variations in governance and resource distribution. With the advancement of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), spatial analysis has become a powerful tool for examining administrative boundary patterns and regional structures. This study presents a spatial analysis of administrative boundaries in Northern India using GIS-based cartographic data. The objective is to analyze the distribution, density, and configuration of administrative units and to interpret their relationship with regional development characteristics. A geospatial dataset comprising district-level administrative boundaries was utilized and processed within a GIS environment. Northern Indian states were extracted, and spatial analysis techniques were applied to examine boundary distribution and regional patterns. The results reveal significant variations in administrative structures across the region, with densely populated areas exhibiting fragmented and compact administrative units, while geographically constrained regions display larger and more dispersed boundaries. These patterns highlight the influence of physical geography, population distribution, and development factors on territorial organization. The study demonstrates the effectiveness of GIS-based analysis in identifying spatial patterns and regional disparities. The findings contribute to a better understanding of administrative boundary structures and provide insights that can support regional planning and policy-making. The approach offers a valuable framework for analyzing spatial organization and can be extended to other regions for comparative studies.
